About this Event
Join us on First Friday, February 6, for the first open studios of the 2026 season in the Tulsa Arts District. Tulsa Artist Fellowship welcomes the public to view new exhibitions, experience developing artworks, and engage with the artists contributing to Tulsa’s contemporary art ecosystem.
At the studios, NAM Common returns with Mỹ People, a project by Vietnamese American artists Việt H. Nguyễn and Nic Annette Miller. Developed through their travels across Oklahoma and Missouri in 2025, the work documents community events that sustain Vietnamese culture, history, faith, and belonging. Through photography and storytelling, Mỹ People traces everyday practices of remembrance—festivals, rituals, gatherings, and moments of care—that connect generations across distance and time. The project highlights Vietnamese communities in the heartland as dynamic sites of cultural continuity and adaptation, where identity is shaped through collective presence and shared tradition. In English, “my” denotes association or belonging; in Vietnamese, “Mỹ” translates to America. Mỹ People offers a layered portrait of Vietnamese American life in the region, where communities have established deep roots over the past 50 years.
At Flagship, Le’Andra LeSeur’s Monument Eternal presents a rigorous and affecting examination of monuments built to uphold racist legacies and their lasting impact on the psychological and emotional landscapes of Black communities. Through video, sculpture, photography, and sound, LeSeur constructs an embodied archive—one that centers presence in dialogue with histories of erasure and absence.
Throughout the evening, visitors are invited to move through the Tulsa Artist Fellow studios to meet artists and learn about their processes firsthand. Beverages will be provided by Heirloom Rustic Ales, with live mixes by DJ Xavier.
This First Friday marks the opening of Tulsa Artist Fellowship’s 2026 open studios season. Visitors are also invited to save the date for Friday, March 6, when the new Fellow studios will open during the next First Friday Open Studios.
