Join us at the Barnes as Philadelphia’s Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, led by acclaimed conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson, returns for a special performance celebrating the influential "Black Composer Series". First released on vinyl in the 1970s and reissued in 2019, the series continues to highlight the work of Black composers and their lasting impact.
The program features music by an original solo cello work composed and performed by Ajibola Rivers, Ralph Vaughan Williams’s "Fantasia on a Theme" by Thomas Tallis featuring guest conductor Jaman Dunn-Danger, and Julia Perry’s “Stabat Mater” featuring mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams. Between performances, Johnson will engage the guest artists in a lively conversation about the works.
Your ticket includes access to the Barnes collection. Cocktails and light fare will be available for purchase, and the Garden Restaurant at Barnes Foundation will be open for dinner with reservations between 6 and 8pm.
