March 1: "I Really Did Not Know That We Were Free": How Black Women Helped Nancy Hall Tell Her Story
In 1935, Black school teachers interviewed hundreds of formerly enslaved people, including Nancy Hall, who had been enslaved at Magnolia Mound. The resulting slavery narrative and over 200 others are archived at Southern University, where the slavery project originated. Writer and graphic novelist Angus Woodward presents the story of Nancy Hall, her interviewer, and dozens of Black women who were involved in the project.
