Community members are invited to lace up their walking shoes for the first annual Walk to Nick’s on Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m. This new community event is proudly sponsored by the Greene County Community Foundation, also known as Greene Giving, and by Dr. Robert P. Dillaplain, an Air Force veteran, a former Xenia Community Schools Board of Education member for 28 years, and a Greene Giving board member.The walk will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the entrance sign to Eagle’s Way on Country Club Drive and will conclude at Nick's Restaurant. The route is less than one mile and is designed to be walked only, making it accessible and enjoyable for participants of all ages and abilities.
This inaugural event also carries a deeply personal meaning. Over the holidays, Dr. Dillaplain experienced a serious health scare and has since been steadily rebuilding his strength, stability, and balance by walking in his neighborhood. He partnered with Greene Giving to organize the Walk to Nick’s not only to support the AFROTC scholarship program, but also as a personal milestone—pushing himself to walk farther than he has to date.
This event is free to attend, with heartfelt donations encouraged at the finish line. All proceeds will benefit the Xenia AFROTC scholarship program through Greene Giving, supporting future leaders in military service.
Participants are encouraged to register by May 29 via the official Facebook event page, though walk-ups are welcome on the day of the event. The first 50 respondents will receive a special challenge coin.
Additional event highlights include:
• A silent auction
• Post-walk gathering at Nick’s Restaurant beginning around 11:00 a.m., where participants can enjoy food and drinks on their own
Parking Information:
• Parking is available at the former home of Northside Christian Church near Eagle’s Way, and at Faith Community United Methodist Church near Nick’s Restaurant
• Please do not park on the grass of the WGC Golf Course
• Volunteers will be available to transport walkers back to their cars parked at the former Northside Christian Church (Faith Community UMC Men of Faith).
The event will take place rain or shine.
