This four-hour course carries a HealthFirst Certificate of Attendance and covers important first aid for accidents and serious illnesses that babies and children may encounter in everyday situations. During this hands-on training, we will cover:
- A step-by-step approach to follow in a medical emergency involving your baby or child
- Calling for emergency help in Switzerland and what to say
- Recognising and managing life-threatening bleeding and shock
- Basic wound care and the first aid for nosebleeds
- Sprains and broken bones: telling the difference; how to make an arm sling
- When to consider a spinal injury and what to do
- Head injuries: when should I worry if my child hits their head?
- Burns first aid
- Accidental poisoning: when to call the poisoning information line; when to call an ambulance
- Asthma: recognising a severe attack; understanding how to help
- Recognising serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) and learning how to use an EpiPen™
Course fees include a triangular bandage (to make a sling) and a crepe bandage (for bandaging wounds and joints) for each participant.
