FAQs

What qualification will I receive?

You will receive a requalification in First Aid at Work, aligned to HSE requirements. Your new certificate is valid for 3 years and is nationally recognised by employers across all industries.

When should I book my requalification?

You should book your requalification well before your current certificate expires. There is no grace period - if your certificate lapses, you will need to take the full 3-day First Aid at Work course instead. We recommend booking at least 3 months in advance to secure your preferred date.

Can I attend if my certificate has already expired?

No. The requalification course is only available to delegates whose existing First Aid at Work certificate is still valid. There is no grace period after expiry. If your certificate has lapsed, you must attend the full 3-day First Aid at Work course to regain your qualification.

How am I assessed?

Assessment is through continuous observation by your instructor throughout the 2 days, combined with a short multiple-choice questionnaire. There are no written exams. Your instructor will monitor your practical skills and knowledge throughout the course and provide supportive feedback to ensure you feel confident.

Is this the same content as the 3-day course?

Yes, the FAWR covers the same comprehensive syllabus as the full 3-day First Aid at Work course. However, it is delivered at an accelerated pace over 2 days, as delegates are expected to have existing knowledge and practical experience from their current qualification.

What if I only have an EFAW certificate?

The requalification course is only available for those holding a current First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate. If you hold an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate, you will need to attend the full 3-day FAW course to upgrade your qualification.

What should I bring to the course?

Just bring yourself and a form of photo ID and proof of your current FAW qualification. We provide all training equipment, course materials, and workbooks. Free refreshments and parking are included. You may wish to bring a pen for note-taking, though this is not essential.

Do I need to attend an annual refresher as well?

The HSE strongly recommends that first aiders attend annual refresher training to maintain their competence between requalification courses. However, annual refreshers do not extend your certificate validity - you must still complete the full requalification before your 3-year certificate expires.

Is there an age requirement?

You must be at least 14 years old to attend the course. However, to be formally appointed as a workplace first aider, you must be at least 16 years old. There is no upper age limit.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing as there will be practical elements including kneeling on the floor for CPR practice. Trainers or flat, comfortable shoes are advisable. We provide all training equipment and materials.
