About this Event
The Hillside Club Fireside meetings are held on the first Monday of most months (January, February, March, April, June, October, and November).
They are open to the public and admission is free to members, with a suggested donation for non-members. No one is turned away for lack of funds. The meetings begin with social time for members, a brief Club business meeting, followed by a featured speaker.

The Berkeley Hillside Club is pleased to host a special Fireside meeting on Monday, April 6th to explore the very real threats to First Amendment protections historically afforded to journalists and the public. Trained at Harvard and Yale universities, Roslyn is a principal with Aidlin Darling Design and has over 30 years of experience in cultural, arts and education projects in the public and non-profit sectors. Roslyn has focused her career on the development of projects in the public realm as a reflection of her belief in architecture’s capacity to better society and the individual through the built environment.
Recent projects include the Windhover Contemplative Center, a spiritual retreat at Stanford University that uses Nathan Oliveira’s Windhover paintings as a vehicle for personal renewal, provides a refuge from daily life and a space for quiet reflection, and creates a unified experience of art, architecture, and landscape. She also worked on the Contemplative Commons at University of Virginia, a pan-university center dedicated to building student resilience through contemplative practice, community connection, and research. Across the Bay, Roslyn helped develop the Center for Architecture +Design in San Francisco, a cultural center focused on community outreach with programs to educate the city’s youth and general public about the power of design across all mediums. Each of these projects integrate biophilia to create engaging communal spaces that advance a deeper connection to our environment, to ourselves and to each other.
Members come early for social time at 6:30 p.m. and the Club business meeting at 7 p.m., followed by the Fireside presentation at 7:30 p.m. for what promises to be an engaging and insightful event.
After the presentation, refreshments and wine will be served.
Fireside Meetings are for civic engagement, a good way to see the club and get to know the members. Club members, our neighbors, and the general public are encouraged to attend.
