***Due to the predicted weather, this fireside chat has been rescheduled to Friday, August 7th!***
Throughout this summer, we're gathering around a campfire at our office in downtown Sylva to highlight a different local conservation partner organization each month. Drop by anytime during our Fireside Chat to meet their staff, learn about their work in the community, and find out how to get involved, plus enjoy s'mores, snacks, outdoor games, and other activities.
This month we're featuring the Watershed Association of the Tuckasegee River (WATR). Come out on August 7th to find out how we can all protect the water sources we rely on so heavily. We'll cool off from the summer heat at Scotts Creek, collect freshwater macroinvertebrates (small aquatic animals), and talk about what they tell us about water quality. Then, we'll wind down with cold beverages, snacks, and s'mores by the campfire.
WATR is a grassroots organization working to improve your water quality and habitat of the Tuckasegee River Basin. The Tuckasegee River watershed supplies the drinking water and ecosystem foundation for Swain and Jackson Counties. What happens upstream, downstream, and all around the watershed impacts all of us directly.
