Join naturalists and bird nerds from Firecraft Northwest, for an interactive lecture to learn foundational concepts in the world of birding. This workshop will cover introductory principles like how to ID birds in the field (field markings), how to know which species we have in our area and when (range maps and migration patterns), and resources to help you make a positive ID (field guides, local hot spots, and binoculars). We'll also do a quick look at other ways you can engage with birds beyond visual ID -- nests, tracks, pellets, feathers, and other signs. After the class, you'll walk away with a better understanding of:Where to find a variety of bird species in our area
When to look for birds and their annual behaviors
What resources to bring with you or reference at home to make a positive ID
An understanding of foundational concepts (and birding jargon!) ranging from sexual dimorphism and bird families to flyways and common bird signs
How to continue on your birding journey after this course!
In this Pacific Northwest Survival Basics crash course, Firecraft Northwest will introduce the core principles and strategies of wilderness survival.
