This is a multi-day in-person course that requires you attend two (or more)sessions - STUDENTS MUST ATTEND ALL DAYS TO COMPLETE! $5/student.About this Event
Class Days: August 26, 5pm -8pm & September 12, 8:30am-3:30pm.
Materials will be handed out and some classroom instruction will be done on day 1, followed by an 8-hour skills and exam session on day 2. Please bring completed workbook to the 2nd day of class.
Requirements for attending this class are:
• Students 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
• Students 13-17 years old will need to have a parent’s signature to attend.
• For the 2nd session, bring your completed workbook that will be handed out on day 1 of the class.
• Bring a completed Survival Kit. Families may share a kit for class purposes, but it is strongly recommended that each person have their own. The kit must include a pocketknife, fire starting kit, magnetic compass, whistle, water treatment device, a small flashlight, signaling device, a large contractor trash bag, food, cordage, first aid supplies, and a survival blanket (space blanket)
• Bring your own lunch, snacks, water or drinks.
• Bring a pen to take the test.
• Families are welcome to sit together. Parents accompanying their children do not have to register unless they intend to take the class themselves.
• This Skills and Exam Session will include the follow topics:
- Survival/first aid
- Landowner relations
- Hunter ethics
- Maine hunting laws
- Hands-on practice of safe firearms handling
- Hands-on instruction of map and compass and outdoor survival
•Students must pass a 50-question exam with a score of at least 70%.
