Please join us for our in-town, indoor lecture series!
One of the most important land management practices at CREW and in Florida in general is prescribed fire. Join Taylor Smith, the Land Manager Senior Assistant for the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), as she delves into an overview of Florida’s history of fire, impacts and restrictions from development, and the necessity of prescribe fire for the betterment of Florida’s ecology.
Taylor was born and raised in Delaware and received her Bachelors of Science from the University of South Carolina. She then came to Florida in 2014 through the Americorp program at Sebastian Inlet State Park. From 2015 to 2025, Taylor worked as an Environmental Specialist II at Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park, the 3rd largest park in the Florida Park Service. During her time with FPS, she participated in more than 150 burns, across 4 States, Florida, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota, as well as over 20 Wildfires. In 2019 Taylor became a certified burner, burn boss, and in September of 2025 joined SFWMD as the Land Manager Sr. Assistant.
Light refreshments start at 3:30 pm, Lecture will be 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
