Practicing yoga asanas moves our body into and out of a variety of positions. Our bodies are unique and so is the way we experience each yoga pose. A greater understanding of anatomical alignment and biomechanical forces in poses can increase strength, flexibility and mobility. Awareness of alignment also allows us to deepen our practice by exploring poses in our individual bodies.
Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations are part of almost every yoga class. Often we move quickly through this sequence without noticing the position of our body and how it moves between poses. In this class, we will break down the major postures and transitions in Sun Salutation. Whether you’re experienced or relatively new to yoga, this class will expand your understanding of classic yoga poses.
Throughout this workshop style class, we will practice strengthening and mobilizing drills to open up the body for Tadasana/Mountain, Uttanasana/Forward Fold, Chatturanga Dandasana/Push Up, Bhujangasana/Cobra, and Adho Mukha Svanasana/Downward Dog. We will also work on the transition between Downward Dog and Anjanasana/Lunge.
The aim of this class is to increase your body awareness and confidence in Sun Salutations. You will leave class with a series of movements that can be done at home to elevate your physical practice.
