Free community workshop after the wildfires. Learn to regulate your nervous system, manage stress and loss, ending with a guided meditation.
About this Event

Wildfire season doesn’t leave much room to process what’s happening while it’s happening. Whether you were watching updates from home, preparing to evacuate, supporting someone you care about, or directly impacted by the fires, there often isn’t much space to process it until things begin to settle.

That’s part of why we’re bringing Finding Your Ground to Kelowna this September.

This free, two-hour community workshop will focus on what can happen in our minds and bodies after an intense period of stress and uncertainty. We’ll talk about the nervous system, stress, grief and loss, and practical ways to begin finding your footing again.

During the workshop, you can expect:

  • A conversation about stress and nervous system responses
  • Tools for grounding and nervous system regulation
  • Support around grief, loss and the emotional impact of wildfire
  • Gentle movement and stretching
  • A guided meditation and body scan
  • Practical tools you can take with you after the workshop

This workshop is open to the whole community. You’re welcome whether you were directly affected by the wildfires, evacuated or on alert, supported someone who was, are a first responder or family member, or are simply feeling the weight of a difficult summer.

You will not be asked to share your story, relive what happened, or participate in anything you don’t feel comfortable with. You’re completely welcome to come, listen and simply be there.

Choose the session that works for you. Each workshop is two hours:

Tuesday, September 1 | 5:00–7:00 PM
Saturday, September 19 | 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
Sunday, September 20 | 9:30–11:30 AM

Location: lululemon Bernard, 201-410 Bernard Ave, Kelowna

Cost: Free. Registration is required to save your seat.

We hope this can be a space to slow down, learn a few tools, and give yourself some room to process what this summer has held.

Agenda
9:30am | Welcome & Grounding
9:40am | Psychoeducation

Info: Stress, the Nervous System & Comparative Suffering

Learn what can happen in your nervous system during and after a stressful or uncertain experience, including why you may still feel on edge, exhausted, emotional, disconnected, or “not quite yourself” even after the immediate threat has passed.

We’ll also talk about comparative suffering and why we often minimize what we’re feeling because someone else “had it worse.” You’ll leave with a better understanding of your own stress response and some practical ways to support your nervous system as things begin to settle.

10:15am | Break
10:30am | Psychoeducation

Info: Grief, Loss & Coping

Grief can show up after more than the loss of a person or a home. It can come with changes to your sense of safety, routine, community, stability, or what you thought the next few months would look like.

We’ll explore some of the ways grief can show up emotionally and physically, why there is no “right” way or timeline to process what has happened, and practical coping strategies that can help you make space for what you’re feeling without becoming overwhelmed by it.

11:00am | Rest. Release. Reset

Info: We’ll finish the workshop by slowing things down with a guided body scan and meditation designed to help you reconnect with your body, notice where you may be holding tension, and give your nervous system an opportunity to settle.

There’s nothing you need to achieve or “do right.” You’ll simply be guided through a gentle practice focused on grounding, awareness, and creating a little more space between you and everything you’ve been carrying.
