This beginners’ Hatha yoga class is an excellent way to improve balance due to its focus on core strength, stability and body awareness.The practice of yoga requires you to be aware of your body’s position and movements, which helps improve your body awareness and balance.
The balance poses in this class will challenge your body’s relationship to gravity, helping you develop stability and control.
Yoga encourages mindfulness and focus, which can enhance your ability to maintain balance poses.
In this class, we will be looking at the concept and the role of Drishti, or focal points, and how to effectively implement them into your practice for improved stability and concentration.
Our peak pose in this class will be the pictured Half Moon Pose or Ardha Chandrasana, a balancing yoga posture that opens the hips and chest while strengthening the legs, offering a sense of spaciousness.
Balance naturally declines with age, but you can slow down, and even reverse, that decline. Focusing on yoga postures that preserve and improve balance can keep you steady on your feet for longer.
Physical frailty also plays a big role in how well we are able to balance. Muscle weakness, loss of mobility and general loss of strength can make it physically more difficult to balance well.
But like many things related to aging, all it takes is a little extra work to keep your balance strong!
All classes are for beginners and take place at Crescent Yoga Studio at St Anne’s Tennis Club FY8 2QH. The yoga studio is fully equipped so you don’t need to bring anything with you, unless you prefer to use your own mat and blanket etc.
- Tuesday evening 1.5-hour classes cost £10.
- Thursday evening 1-hour classes cost £8.
- Saturday morning regular yoga 1.5-hour classes cost £10.
- Special Event Saturday morning and Sunday evening classes cost £25.
