Join curators Aaron Lister and Chelsea Nichols for one last look at Blood Is Thicker, where artist Jason Greig’s darkly luminous monoprints and paintings commune with their gothic ancestors—Goya, Redon, Kollwitz, Doré, Rops, and others—drawn from a private collection of 18th- and 19th-century masterpieces.These works reveal a rich gothic lineage where printer’s ink flows like blood through art history’s veins—spanning centuries and reaching from Europe’s Old Masters to Aotearoa’s own dark imagination. Within this world, Greig conjures haunted realms where Lemmy from Motörhead hangs by Edgar Allan Poe, and Milton’s Pandæmonium echoes through post-quake Christchurch.
In this tour curators Aaron Lister and Chelsea Nichols will walk you through the exhibition, telling you the stories behind the artworks and the weird and wonderful people who have collected them. This is a rare opportunity to see such a large gathering of Greig’s works, and the old master’s whose dark shadows he happily builds on.
