Films of the Harborwalk (Part I)

Please join Mike Manning for a discussion of a number of films relating to Boston, its harbor, and the Harborwalk. These Boston-based films are from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

This presentation will begin in the Leventhal Center Room at the Boston Harbor Hotel - located at 70 Rowes Wharf. The Leventhal Center Room is accessible by walking completely through the hotel's large exterior arch and turning left (the room is not accessible from the lobby or the interior of the Boston Harbor Hotel).

Films of the Harborwalk will be presented in a powerpoint format with still photographs and short clips from each movie. While most Bostonians are very familiar with the wave of Boston-based films post-Good Will Hunting, many films were shot “on location” in Boston’s neighborhoods beginning in the mid-1960s.

This presentation will feature six films: two from the 1960s, two from the 1970s, one from 1982, and one from 1997. We’ll discuss the film’s plot, the main characters, and the specific location in Boston where certain firm sequences were shot.

All are welcome, but please only RSVP if you plan to come, as seating space is limited and we want to be able to contact you in case of inclement weather. Sometimes, space frees up on the morning of the event and we can accommodate a few on a stand-by basis.

Due to seating/space constraints, only ticket holders will have access to this event.

The Friends of the Boston Harborwalk is a volunteer group affiliated with Boston Harbor Now. The group meets monthly to create awareness, promote public enjoyment, and foster local stewardship of Boston’s 43-mile Harborwalk.
