Archie Rice is a small-time vaudevillian living in the shadow of his father, a celebrated music-hall legend. Refusing to face his own limitations, he tries desperately for his moment in the spotlight, nursing his humiliation in trysts with naïve young girls and pouring out his passion in his valedictory number, ‘Why Should I Care?’
