About the show:This screening looks at the milestones in the development of the pottery industry from the early 20th Century. Our guide is ceramics historian Kathy Niblett, who sees the start of the modern pottery-making era as the building of Moorcroft’s ‘model’ factory of 1913. Decade by decade she charts the development of technology, design and materials. And this ‘guided tour’ is copiously illustrated with relevant archive film sequences from Staffordshire Film Archive of all the pottery processes in the heyday of coal firing, and the many developments since those times. Also: there are interviews with pottery managers, workers and ceramic historians throughout. There is a review of the state of the industry today - and some successful modern firms and individual ceramicists are featured.
