About this Event
Join us for a special Black History Month screening of The Poppaw Queen, a documentary about one of Maryland's earliest African American families: the Queens!
Mary “The Poppaw” Queen was the earliest ancestor of the Queen lineage that was illegally sold into slavery and never set free.
This film will also highlight:
- The Queen descendants that later filed lawsuits against their slaveholders to assert their claim of freedom and
- Honor the GU272 - Jesuit Diaspora.
The film follows a descendant of the Queen Family, Malachi E. Robinson, as he discovers his family’s past and reveals new details about his ancestors’ historic fight for freedom.
Following the screening, join the filmmakers for an engaging discussion about the Poppaw Queen's role in shaping Black history.
