Join us at The Museum of Kansas City for a screening of Paul Laurence Dunbar: Beyond the Mask, a compelling documentary exploring the life, legacy, and enduring influence of one of America's most celebrated poets.
Through historical insights, literary analysis, and reflections from contemporary scholars and artists, the film reveals how Dunbar navigated the complexities of race, artistry, and identity at the turn of the twentieth century. Following the screening, participants will engage in a facilitated discussion about Dunbar's work and its continued relevance today.
This program is presented in conjunction with The Museum of Kansas City’s new exhibition, Dunbar: Kansas City’s First Black Suburb.
