About this Event

Film screening of ‘Six Inches of Soil’ plus Q&A with expert panel

Come join us for an exclusive screening of the thought-provoking documentary 'Six Inches of Soil' followed by a Q&A session with the producer, Claire Mackenzie and our expert panel.

Get ready to dive deep into the world of soil health and sustainability.

Six Inches of Soil is a powerful British documentary that explores the vital issue of soil health and the transformative potential of regenerative farming. Be inspired and learn how we can heal the soil and transform the future of farming.

Screened in the beautiful setting of Fison Barn at Earth Trust, this 96-minute film follows the inspiring journeys of three young farmers—Anna Jackson, Adrienne Gordon, and Ben Thomas—who are leading the charge against the industrial food system and restoring the land through sustainable practices. With expert insights from renowned figures like Henry Dimbleby and Satish Kumar, the film highlights solutions to restore biodiversity, improve public health, and combat climate change. Completed in 2023, Six Inches of Soil premiered at the Oxford Real Farming Conference and was shown at COP28.

A Q&A session will follow the screening where you will have an opportunity to put your questions to our panel of special guests, including the film’s producer, Claire Mackenzie. Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired and learn how we can heal the soil and transform the future of farming and engage in this important discussion!

Pay what you can ticket options available.

Meet the panel:

Claire Mackenzie (Six Inches of Soil Producer)
Claire is a film producer of independent environmental documentaries ‘Six Inches of Soil’ and ‘From the Ground Up’, both exploring our current farming system. She has a background in TV production, charity fundraising and event organising.

She has set up environmental community groups both in London and Cambridgeshire - with food and farming at their heart. With a passion for holistic health care she has been a trained therapist for 15 years, specialising working with those affected by cancer and a trustee at Cambridge Cancer Help Centre.

Claire is also a Food Ambassador for Love British Food and, when she can, works at Sweetpea Market Garden (film featured in Six Inches of Soil).

Will Emmet of Emmets of Drayton
Will is a local farmer and landowner who has recently taken over the arable farming contract at Earth Trust. We will be working with him on our journey to transition Earth Trust’s farms over the coming years. Will and his family have a lot of experience of arable systems, as well as pig farming around Oxfordshire.

Tristan Leslie (Earth Trust, Senior Ranger)
Tristan is a practical land manager with an interest in regenerative agriculture and holistic management. He currently helps to manage the farms and nature reserves at Earth Trust in Oxfordshire and delivers training sessions and workshops on soil health for farmers and other landowners. He has a background in beef farming and outwintering. Tristan believes strongly in the power of farmer engagement in soil health.

Simon Atkinson (Earth Trust, Director of Green Infrastructure and Nature Recovery)
Simon joined Earth Trust in July 2023 after 12 years as Head of Conservation at the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country. He brings extensive experience in managing and improving green spaces, having delivered over 700 projects across public open spaces, nature reserves, and farmland. Over the past year, Simon has been key to developing and implementing a new plan across our farm. This has involved bringing in new contractors and managing Countryside Stewardship and SFI applications to facilitate regenerative management across the farm.

Accessible Pricing

Ensuring inclusivity and diversity is core to Earth Trust’s mission, and we believe that cost should not be a barrier to participation. To make this event accessible to all, we are trialling a ‘Pay What You Can’ offer.

As a local environmental charity, the fees from our courses and events, along with your enerous donations, enable us to champion accessible green spaces for all and inspire positive action for people and the planet. If you can afford to pay more than the standard price, your contribution will directly support others' learning experiences.

We look forward to welcoming you to an engaging evening of inspiration and a suprisingly emotional look at the soil beneath us. Spaces are limited, book your tickets now!
