Starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, this modern classic of queer cinema directed by Todd Haynes is based on a 1952 semi-autobiographical novel by Patricia Highsmith. "Carol" (2015) depicts the secret romance between two women exploring their desire in the midst of repressive societal norms and fraught personal lives in the early 1950s. This program is offered in partnership with the Princeton Garden Theatre, the first of our three film series inspired by the special exhibition "Photography as a Way of Life: Minor White, Aaron Siskind, and Harry Callahan," which examines the careers of these three influential American photographers, teachers, and thinkers in the mid-twentieth century. Introduced by Alexandra Foradas, Haskell Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. The Museum will be open late, so check out the exhibition, and then head to the screening.
Admission is free; registration required. Please note that this screening will be held in the Mueum's Tuttle Lecture Hall.
LATE THURSDAYS! The Museum’s Late Thursdays programming is made possible in part by Heather and Paul G. Haaga Jr., Class of 1970.
