The Embassy of India, Berlin and the Tagore Centre, presents Cinema Salon, a screening of The Weight of Longing (original title: Iktsuarpok, Language: English, Subtitles: German), an Indian English experimental poetic feature film, followed by a conversation with Actor & Producer Akshay Jha.

After the death of their mother, siblings Christopher and Christine embark on a Christmas holiday to Goa to visit their maternal aunt, Esther, whom they loathe from their difficult teenage experiences. What was anticipated to be an awkward family gathering transforms into an enlightening journey of self-discovery. The three combat their mutual loss and grow closer in the days leading up to Christmas: Christopher finds solace in the poetic demeanor of Rahul, Esther's neighbor's son, while Christine battles her demons on the shores of Goa, and Esther finds peace knowing she is not alone in her old age.

During this week, they encounter emotions that feel distinct and almost indescribable, echoing the concept of "Iktsuarpok" — exploring unspoken feelings, new friendships, a burdensome past, the passage of time, shattered hopes, and the reimagining of dreams. Join them in this delicately crafted, spatial film to experience their journey alongside newfound friends in Goa, where words spoken and unspoken come to life.

Join us on 6 August for the screening, followed by a conversation with Akshay Jha on the making of the film and the ideas woven into it, a rare chance for Berlin audiences to engage directly with independent Indian cinema and its makers.
