A spirited group of seniors make a horror film, discovering friendship, confidence, and creativity. Free screening + Q&A
About this Event

Silver Screamers is a heartwarming and spine-tingling documentary that follows a spirited group of older adults who set out to make a horror film, stepping far outside their comfort zones. Led by a local filmmaker, they navigate the challenges of low-budget movie-making with humour, heart, and resilience. Along the way, they discover newfound confidence, forge meaningful friendships, and prove that creativity knows no age. Silver Screamers is a joyful celebration of second acts and fearless reinvention.

Trailer:

Sean Cisterna is an award-winning filmmaker who previously directed the festival-favourite The Long Rider (2022), a sweeping documentary chronicling a 25,000 km horseback journey from Canada to Brazil. His 2019 feature From the Vine, an international coproduction set in the world of Italian wine and starring Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano, was distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films. Cisterna also directed the critically acclaimed teen cancer drama Kiss and Cry (2017) and Full Out (2015), a gymnastics biopic starring Jennifer Beals—both of which streamed globally on Netflix. A short Q&A session will be held at the end of each screening. Admission is free with a suggested small pay-what-you-can donation of $10.00. Complementary beer tastings will be available with thanks to our generous sponsor Great Lakes Brewery and snacks will be available for purchase. No outside food or drinks permitted. Enjoy responsibly.
