A year after his apparent suicide, postman Joseph Roulin charges his initially reluctant son Armand with the task of delivering van Gogh’s last letter to his brother Theo. Travelling first to Paris and then to Auvers-sur-Oise, Armand begins to suspect foul play. Questioning those who knew Vincent, Armand turns detective as his attempts to reconcile conflicting accounts embroil him in the mystery of the artist’s final days.Seven years in the making, involving a team of 125 painters who painstakingly created every frame of the film as an oil-on-canvas rendition in the style of van Gogh, this film has to be seen to be believed! Vincent’s iconic paintings vividly spring to life on the screen, plunging Armand and you the viewer deeper and deeper into a tantalising ‘whodunnit’ scenario as characters made familiar by the famous portraits – Dr Gachet, his daughter Marguerite, Joseph Roulin, Louise Chevalier – offer up their testimony. Loving Vincent, the first-ever feature film consisting entirely of hand-painted images, was nominated for Best Animated Feature at both the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards and won the Audience Award at the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.“An engrossing exploration of the artist's final days rendered in his signature painting style.” – The Village Voice“Loving Vincent is utterly transfixing.” – Metro.“The sheer artistry is miraculous where even folded shirts look as dramatic as emoting faces…” – Every Movie Has a Lesson.“One of the most lunatic labors of love to appear on movie screens this year. And in that sense, a fitting, miraculous tribute to its subject.” – Entertainment Weekly.“Brings a poetic sense of tragedy to the last act of van Gogh's life, and fresh insight into the kind of man he was.” – Variety.“It took them and a team of more than 100 artists over six years to hand-paint the film's 65,000 frames. The wait was worth it, as their creation is the best animated film of the century.” – Orlando Weekly.“... the most visually stimulating feature film to be released in years.” – Tribune News Service.“The result is absolutely gorgeous, like stepping into a Van Gogh painting where the swirls and daubs of paint convey a starry night sky, golden haystacks or a flock of crows in flight.” – Daily Express.“See it and be exhilarated.” – East Bay Express.Voluntary donations - Off the Wall Films is a not-for-profit enterprise.
