Film Club is BACK for an extra-special, New Zealand-exclusive screening of the debut feature of alt-comedy sensation Conner O’Malley - RAP WORLD! Join host Tim Batt for a hilarious, surreal night not quite like any other.

Conner O’Malley has risen quickly in the modern comedy scene to become one of the most exciting and genuinely daring artists of his time. From experimental Youtube short films to his excellent stand-up special and now with his feature debut, O’Malley is a razor-sharp profiler of the modern masculine ego, laying waste to the schlubby suburban man-child persona that has evolved in the digital age.

The feature directorial debut of O’Malley and co-director/editor Danny Scharar transports us to the halcyon days of January 2009 in Tobyhanna, PA. Three young men (Jack Bensinger, Eric Rahill and Conner O’Malley) self-document their attempt to write and record a rap album in one night. Shot on era appropriate DV-Cam, this hilarious, tragicomic display of suburban malaise and artistic hubris represents both a continuance of the themes of O’Malley’s work and a new level of creative and narrative excellence.

Mezzanine Film Programmer and LA Festival of Movies co-founder Micah Gottlieb says: ‘[RAP WORLD is] a riotously entertaining mockumentary — a 2009-set period satire comparable only to the duo’s previous Youtube oeuvre, but is also perhaps their most rigorous work yet. This fuzzy portrayal of after-hours Midwestern suburban life captures both sides: the inescapable boredom as a catalyst for bad decisions, and an appreciation for simple pleasures.’

RAP WORLD will be preceded by the short film COREYS, starring O’Malley and directed by Dan Streit. Tim will also be treating us to a stand-up performance, and there will be a post-screening Q+A with the creative team behind RAP WORLD (prerecorded).
