About this Event
ABOUT THE CUISINE
Filipino cuisine is a vibrant reflection of the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, blending Malay, Spanish, Chinese, and American influences into dishes bursting with flavour, texture, and heart. From the tangy, comforting Sinigang soup to the fresh, zesty Kinilaw, every dish tells a story of family, tradition, and togetherness. Filipino food is all about sharing – hearty, flavourful meals made to bring people together around the table.
ABOUT THE CHEF
A message from Chef Tina:
“Hi I’m Cristina. I’m from the province of Bulacan which is close to Manila in The Philippines. I love to cook. My favourite thing to make is Inangit, sticky rice with coconut milk. This was my mother’s favourite dish and she passed it down to me. I’m the eldest of 4 and my mother taught me how to cook perfect rice when I was 7 so that I could cook for my siblings when she went to work.
I’m excited to share Filipino food with people in this country. Teaching a class and sharing my food and my culture with new people fills me with joy and brings back so many happy memories of the home I had to leave behind.”

THE CLASS FORMAT
Our cookery classes are family-style - meaning everyone works together to prepare the dishes as a team.
While you’ll be asked to choose one dish to focus on, you’ll have the opportunity to move around the kitchen, help with other dishes, and learn from each recipe. It’s a fun, social, and collaborative way to cook! At the end of the class, you’ll sit down with the chef, class facilitator and volunteers to enjoy the delicious meal you’ve created together.
