La Charanga San Juan was founded in 2000 by Johnny Rivera, an accomplished Puerto Rican bassist with a rich history in the salsa music scene. Having played alongside some of the genre's most iconic artists, including Tito Rojas, Jerry Rivera, and Tommy Olivencia, Johnny’s expertise and passion for music are undeniable.In August of that same year, he assembled La Charanga San Juan with a talented group of salsa musicians, creating a unique sound that quickly set the band apart. The group’s innovative blend of violin, flute, and a distinctive Cuban-style rhythm gave them a fresh edge, distinguishing them from traditional salsa bands. Their infectious music earned them widespread success, as they performed across Puerto Rico, earning respect and admiration within the music industry.
After relocating to Florida several years later, Johnny took a brief hiatus to search for the right musicians to continue the band’s legacy. Once he assembled a new lineup of seasoned, highly skilled musicians, La Charanga San Juan was reborn, ready to captivate audiences with the special sound that had been sorely missed. Today, the band is growing in popularity, with a loyal following wherever they perform.
