How is social science data collected when a country is at war? What are the practical and ethical challenges of collecting representative data in a war-zone? And why is the data crucial for understanding social and political developments in Ukraine today? How do fieldworkers navigate issues of safety, sampling, logistics, and trust?
The European Social Survey (ESS) is Europe’s leading cross-national surveys on social attitudes, values, and living conditions. How does ESS collect data, both under normal circumstances in Norway and under extraordinary conditions in Ukraine during a full-scale invasion.
Join us for a conversation with ESS country representatives from Norway and Ukraine. They will share field experiences, talk about challenges, and provide insights from working under radically different conditions. How do fieldworkers navigate issues of safety, sampling, logistics, and trust?
