Burton Mere Wetlands is Chester’s local RSPB reserve and straddles the border between England and Wales. It offers a mosaic of freshwater lagoons and meres, reedbeds, marsh, mixed farmland and woodland and teems with wildlife all year round. In November, we should find Godwits, Ruff and other waders, plus a variety of waterbirds such as wild geese, Egrets, ducks and rails. Raptors like Harriers are regular. Accessible trails and hides allow close‑up views of the natural treasures the reserve has to offer and a café and visitor centre add extra comfort to the experience.
