Trip/area Description: Steve Goff will lead a kayaking trip on the upper section of Arbuckle Creek. The upper creek runs along the western border of Avon Park Air Force Range and much of the west side is conservation land. This section of the creek primarily flows through cypress swamp. We will launch from Burnt Out Bridge Public Boat Ramp (7099 East Arbuckle Road, Avon Park) and paddle upstream to Lake Arbuckle, turn around and paddle back to the launch. There will generally be nowhere to get out once we start.
Duration of trip: 3 to 4 hours. Travel time to the launch site will be approximately 2 hours each way. Total trip ~ 7-8 hours.
Paddling distance: 6 miles
Degree of difficulty: Participants must bring their own kayak and have all necessary equipment. Participants must be able to kayak the entire distance of the trip. Make sure to bring water, snacks, and sunscreen/sun protection. There are no facilities at the launch site and nothing nearby, so you are responsible to bring anything you will need.
Where to meet: IHOP/Red Roof Inn at 8800 20th Street in Vero Beach before traveling to the launch site.
