Saturday evening, August 15th, join us at Electra for a unique musical journey with artist and filmmaker Michael W. Barnard.

In conjunction with his solo exhibition, Emanations of Inner Light (on view in Electra Gallery July 10th - August 22nd), Michael will be presenting a relaxing evening of transcendent acoustic guitar that listeners are invited to experience with their full being.

Michael learned to play guitar at the feet of the legendary John Fahey and has been exploring the instrument for over 50 years. In the late 1960's, Michael found himself playing guitar in a church at Redwoods Monastery in Northern California. Mother Superior Miriam wrote to her friend,Trappist monk Thomas Merton, about the event:

"Dear Tom,

Last Sunday...Mike the guitarist played in the church, which he finds an ideal place to play the guitar...Katreen danced to the strange, meditative, sober and yet colorful rhythms of Mike's guitar."
