Held each day from 9am - noon, Camp Fetch Your Future is a four-day educational summer camp for children ages 9–12 designed to build confidence, empathy, and practical skills in dog safety, training, and basic veterinary care.
Hosted at Sol Dog Lodge and Training Center, the camp provides a structured, hands-on learning environment where children gain a deeper understanding of dogs while developing responsibility and leadership skills.
The program combines interactive lessons, experiential learning, and professional instruction. Campers begin by learning how to safely interpret dog body language, including recognizing stress signals, understanding emotional cues, and practicing appropriate greeting techniques with trained dogs under staff supervision. Through games, role-play activities, and creative projects, children learn to “see from the dog’s perspective,” building empathy and safety awareness that extends into their daily lives.
Throughout the week, campers engage in enrichment-based activities such as creating DIY rope toys and puzzle feeders that promote canine mental stimulation. These activities reinforce concepts of humane care and enrichment while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
A licensed veterinarian leads a comprehensive introduction to animal health and safety. Campers learn about wound care, gentle handling, and basic first aid through demonstrations and guided practice. In a structured, supervised setting, children practice bandaging techniques on plush training models while wearing lab coats and using real veterinary tools in a safe, age-appropriate format. Interactive diagnostic stations allow campers to explore how veterinarians assess and care for animals.
Each day includes reflection, question-and-answer sessions with professionals, and collaborative learning opportunities. The curriculum is intentionally designed to:
• Improve child safety around dogs
• Strengthen empathy and emotional intelligence
• Teach responsible pet ownership
• Introduce potential career pathways in veterinary medicine, animal training, and animal welfare
• Build confidence through hands-on skill development
By the end of the program, campers leave with practical safety knowledge, foundational animal care skills, and a stronger understanding of humane dog stewardship. Camp Fetch Your Future supports both youth development and community safety by equipping children with the tools to interact responsibly and compassionately with dogs.
