Festive Holly Gift Box – Layered Organza & Free-Motion Embroidery

Create a unique and beautifully textured festive holly gift box using layers of delicate organza, free-motion machine embroidery and heat manipulation.

During this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to build a richly textured layered organza fabric, using free-motion machine stitching to draw, stitch and create decorative holly-inspired motifs. The stitched organza will then be carefully cut and embellished using a soldering iron, creating delicate, heat-manipulated edges and interesting textures within the fabric.

You will combine your embroidered organza with a painted background fabric, learning how to layer and stitch the two together before constructing your textile into a beautiful handmade gift box.
The box will then be brought to life with further three-dimensional embellishment. You will create wired holly leaves and berries and add decorative cords to form a unique handmade closure, giving the finished box a distinctly festive character.

You will have the opportunity to develop your free-motion stitching skills while discovering how organza can be transformed through layering, stitching and heat manipulation.

You will leave with a unique handmade festive holly gift box, combining delicate translucent organza, painted fabric, free-motion embroidery and dimensional embellishment—a beautiful piece to give as a special gift or treasure for yourself
You will need a sewing machine with drop feed dogs, fabrics and basic sewing supplies. Detailed requirements will be emailed to you in advance of the class.
Good to know:
The venue has parking. Upon arrival, park in the car park at the front of the shop. Unload your vehicle into your classroom. Staff will then advise you where to park your car for the day at the rear of the complex.
There is disabled parking and ramps allowing access to all areas. There is a disabled toilet.
Staff will help anyone in need of assistance. Shop on site selling an enormous range of goods relating to crafting: dressmaking, patchwork & quilting, knitting & crochet, sewing machines and furniture.
There is a coffee shop on site called O for Coffee. Attendees at our classes are visited by coffee shop staff regularly throughout the day to take any orders. Anything consumed during your day is sold at a 10% discount. As well as a large choice of hot and cold drinks, the menu comprises savoury choices including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and soups. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a selection of cakes and scones made in-house with gluten-free and vegan options.
