Kitsap-area theatre folk:
With the permission of the rights holders, we will be holding a one-evening readers’ theatre presentation of /Festen/ (based on the acclaimed Danish film and adapted for the stage by David Eldridge).
This is an informal, non-commercial event. Admission is free. Participants are welcome either to listen as audience members or to take part in the reading, with roles assigned from among those present.
/Festen/ is a remarkable and challenging work: a family gathering to celebrate a patriarch’s birthday gradually becomes the setting for long-buried truths to emerge. It is widely regarded as one of the most powerful family dramas of the past several decades.
Please be aware that the play deals with themes of family trauma, abuse, racism, suicide, addiction, and other potentially distressing subject matter. The material is intended for mature audiences and may not be suitable for everyone.
Whether you are an actor, director, designer, student of theatre, or simply someone who enjoys hearing a great play read aloud, you are warmly invited to join us.
