Fen Rivers Way

The Fen Rivers Way is a low level 50 mile long waymarked trail that begins in the city centre of Cambridge and follows the meandering River Cam and Great Ouse to Kings Lynn. The route is well served with a regular train link between Cambridge and Kings Lynn making the route very easy to break down into a number of stages. It also means that if you want to join me for some of the stages it should be fairly easy.
I have decided to break it down into 5/6 easy stages.
Timings are base on 12 minute miles average
Arrival times designed to help if you fancy joining me for a stage or two!
Start time 7am
Stage 1: Cambridge to Waterbeach (11.1km) approx. 7 miles
Starting at the city centre of Cambridge this first stage follows a lovely section of the River Cam to the nearby village of Waterbeach. We can meet at the railway section to either take on fuel or literally meet up before heading off on Stage 2. From memory the station building no longer exists, so facilities are limited.
Arrive approx 8.20am
Stage 2: Waterbeach to Ely (18.4km) approx. 11 miles
Probably the most remote stage from Waterbeach to Ely. Potential opportunity to pop to the Cutter Inn, but more likely another meeting point and fuel stop.
Arrive approx 10.50am
Stage 3: Ely to Littleport (12.5km) approx. 7 miles
This stage follows the Great Ouse River for about 7 miles from Ely to Littleport. Propose to meet at the ‘Swan by the River’ for fuel etc, now this could be a quick beer break 😊
Arrive approx 12.10pm
Stage 4: Littleport to Downham Market (20.6km) approx. 13 miles
From Littleport this stage follows the Great Ouse River to Downham Market. Known to be one of the duller stretches due to the proximity of the track to the A10.
Arrive approx 2.40pm
Stage 5: Downham Market to Kings Lynn (21km) approx. 13 miles
Stage 5a: Downham Market to Watlington (11km) approx. 7 miles
The 5th stage starts at Downham Market and ends at Kings Lynn. An optional stop is available at Watlington half way for anyone wanting to help me to the finish!
Arrive approx 5.20pm Stage 6: Watlington to Kings Lynn (10km) approx. 6.2 miles
Arrive approx 6.30pm
Finish: The official finish is the Quay in King’s Lynn, however, I am proposing the Tuesday Market Place, as it is close to a Wetherspoons!
