Feminist Killjoys At Work

Bossy. Difficult. Aggressive. Too sensitive. Too political.

Many people who challenge bias, exclusion or unfairness at work are labelled in exactly these ways. Speaking up can make you the “killjoy” in the room — the person who refuses to laugh at the joke, overlook the microaggression, or accept the status quo.

Inspired by Sara Ahmed’s concept of the feminist killjoy, our event series is a curated space for people who challenge discrimination, inequality and exclusion at work. It is a place to vent, analyse and strategise together.

The Feminist Killjoy Chronicles are interactive evening events that combine exchange and reflection with practical strategy-building and networking. You are invited to bring your own workplace experiences — the moments that made you angry, uncomfortable or speechless. Together with you, we will unpack what happened, why it happens, and how to respond next time.

The atmosphere is honest, reflective and sometimes cathartic. But the goal is not only to rant — it is to leave with tools, solidarity and renewed confidence to challenge unfair dynamics at work.

Each event explores questions such as:

• What happens when you speak up about bias at work?
• Why are some people labelled “difficult” when they challenge norms?
• How can we respond to microaggressions or subtle exclusion in meetings?
• How do we protect our energy while still advocating for change?
• How do we turn uncomfortable moments into leadership moments?

You will leave this event feeling validated in your experience and inspired by other participants ideas and thoughts. Mostly, you will understand that gender based discrimination affects many of us - you are not alone in the feminist struggle.

Rea Eldem is the founder of IN-VISIBLE and a lecturer for diversity at various universities. With a background in Gender Studies and Design Thinking, Rea works at the intersection of leadership, workplace culture and gender equity. Known for challenging boundaries with clarity and conviction, Rea combines academic insight with practical tools that help people navigate difficult workplace dynamics — and transform uncomfortable moments into opportunities for change.
