In her book Surviving A Patriarchy On Steroids, Stephanie Davies offers a beacon of feminist light in this time of darkness. She captures the rage and grief we often feel as we navigate a world where male violence is on overdrive. And she offers a tribute to women everywhere-their solidarity, creativity, and spirit-as they've resisted misogyny for centuries and continue to resist it now more than ever.
These three great feminist authors will read from their work, share their unique perspectives and conduct an audience discussion and Q&A designed to encourage us all to keep on loving, hoping, resisting, creating, and dancing, despite it all.
Stephanie Davies is a writer, speaker coach, and event organizer with a passion for social justice. She’s worked for Doctors Without Borders, North Star Fund, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative, the Plum Village Community of Thich Nhat Hanh, and UNAIDS, among others. Surviving a Patriarchy on Steroids is her second book. She is also the author of the coming-of-age memoir Other Girls Like Me, which Stephen Fry described as a “gloriously thrilling and uplifting ride through a critical moment in queer culture, the women’s movement, and the story of political protest.” In 2024, Stephanie received the Lambda Literary Jeanne Córdova Prize for Lesbian/Queer Nonfiction.
Linda Villarosa is a contributing writer at the New York Times Magazine and a journalism professor at the City University of New York. Her book Under the Skin: The Hidden Toll of Racism on Health in America was a finalist for the 2023 Pulitzer Prize. She is at work on a biography of the poet-playwright Ntozake Shange when not fishing in the Rondout and Ashokan reservoirs.
Beverly Donofrio's three memoirs were conceived in anger and ended with acceptance, that what Shakespeare said is true: "Nothing is either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” Her first and most famous memoir, Riding Cars with Boys, was a New York Times bestseller and made into a popular Hollywood movie. Her essays have been published widely, nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and many times anthologized including in the Best of Oprah Magazine and the Best of Brevity collections. She has performed at the Moth and been a contributor to NPRs All Things Considered. She teaches memoir-writing workshops around the country and recently finished her fourth memoir, It Started with Adam, and Ended with a Little Help from Psychedelics.
