Feminist Cities - short documentary screening with discussant Lorena Samuel, followed by Q&A
About this Event

Join us for a screening of Feminist Cities, a powerful 9-minute documentary exploring feminist activism and everyday urban violence in Latin American cities. Produced through the Feminist Cities Colab, the film is a collaborative output of an interdisciplinary project uniting researchers and activists from the UK, Brazil, Argentina, Guatemala, the US and Palestine. Using feminist and participatory methodologies, the project investigates how women confront and reimagine safety in hostile urban environments.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with co-investigator Dr Roxana Pessoa Cavalcanti and special guest Lorena Samuel, a visionary feminist activist from Grupo Mulheres do Brasil. Together, they will reflect on the role of feminist organising in advocating for safer, more just cities. This event forms part of a wider knowledge exchange project emerging from the British Academy-funded project The Feminist Cities Lab: Contemporary Feminist Activism and Urban Violence in Latin America.

This event is co-hosted by the Centre for Social Harm, Violence and Crime Research and the Centre for Gender and Violence Research at the University of Bristol.

Dr Roxana Pessoa Cavalcanti, critical social scientist and feminist activist, based in the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol, is co-director of the Feminist Cities Colab (a participatory research project funded by the British Academy).

Lorena Samuel is a Brazilian visionary leader and feminist activist with over 10 years of international experience. She drives initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion, such as the Women Voices Project UK, which empowers women in their professional journeys worldwide. She also contributes as Co- Leader to organizations such as Grupo Mulheres do Brasil in London. As a speaker, mentor, and writer, she inspires the development of female leadership through self-knowledge, highlighting the importance of transforming challenges into opportunities (you can follow her on LinkedIn and Instagram)
