It all started at a dinner party. With men. And talking. Sound familiar?Rebecca Solnit, an American author and feminist activist, is credited with coining the term “mansplaining.” By naming the experience, she highlighted how things that remain unnamed cannot be acknowledged or shared.
In her essay collection Men Explain Things to Me, Solnit explores the dynamics that often derail conversations between men and women. She writes about men who wrongly assume they know more than women, and who assume women know less — examining why this happens and how it plays out in the broader gender discourse. Her own encounters, often hilariously awful, serve as examples.
She also recently launched a newsletter, where she offers fact-based yet hopeful analysis of the current political climate in the United States. https://www.meditationsinanemergency.com
