Join us for a meaningful morning of connection, conversation, and community at our upcoming FemCity Coffee Connection.

This month’s Coffee Connection is hosted and sponsored by Shalini Babu of Prudential Advisors, who is passionate about helping individuals and families build more confident financial futures.

Shalini is originally from New Jersey and moved to Des Moines in 2015, where she quickly fell in love with the city. While finance has always interested her, her first passion and career was wildlife conservation. After earning a Biology degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, she worked as a zookeeper, primarily caring for African hoofstock. Her love for rhinos and elephants eventually took her to South Africa, where she worked with the nonprofit Global Conservation Force. There she cared for the horses of the Mounted Anti-Poaching Unit in the Eastern Cape, helped with the ranger program, and took part in community-based conservation work. Today she serves on the board of Global Conservation Force and continues supporting conservation through fundraising here in the U.S. At home, she has two dogs and two turtles.

After 12 years in the wildlife field, Shalini followed her second passion into financial services. Working with her own financial advisor showed her how much financial literacy matters, especially for women. Now she is committed to helping people feel heard, empowered, and equipped to make informed decisions that line up with their goals and values. She especially loves encouraging women to think beyond the short term, build confidence with the financial concepts they’ll face throughout their lives, and understand the importance of protecting what they’ve built.
