In the new year, we often end up adding in lots of new routines and forgetting to let go, unwind and take time for ourselves. This is your chance to take two hours to slow down, reset, and reconnect with yourself. This special class weaves together mindful movement, deep rest, and guided meditation to support both body and mind.
We’ll begin with 20-30 minutes of grounding practices - breathwork, gentle movement, and a short mindful flow to ease into the body and connect breath with movement. From there, we’ll move into the heart of the class: yin yoga. In yin, postures are held for longer, allowing the muscles to relax so we can work deeper into the connective tissues and fascia. This practice helps to release physical tightness, support joint mobility, and quietens the mind.
Yin is a great complement to more dynamic styles of yoga, sports, or busy lifestyles, and is particularly beneficial for anyone who spends long hours at a desk, is recovering from injury, or simply craves deep rest. Benefits include greater flexibility in joints and connective tissues, reduced risk of injury, calmer nervous system and better stress resilience, improved sleep and recovery and sharper focus and cognitive clarity.
We’ll close the practice with yoga nidra, often called yogic sleep. This guided meditation allows your body and brain to access theta and delta brainwaves, which are responsible for the healing and restoration that happens in your body during deep sleep. Activating delta brainwaves during yoga nidra allows your mind and body to rest while you're awake.
Ending by sharing tea altogether.
Please bring with you:
- A yoga mat
- A bolster (if you have one) or a cushion from home
- A blanket
- A jumper
- A bottle of water
This class is suitable for all abilities. I offer plenty of options so there is always something for everyone. The principle of yin is essentially "less is more" so often we'll use props to support the body and come into variations that are less intense so that we can hold them for longer.
