About this Event
Please join us at the New Haven Lawn Club on February 13, 2025 at 12PM for lunch and Professor of Earth & Planetary Sciences David Evans' talk: "Geology's Lesson for Humanity: Be Humble, Be Careful".
A three-course plated luncheon will be served. Free parking is available at the New Haven Lawn Club, which is handicap and ADA Accessible, and on the Yale Shuttle and CT Transit bus lines.
David A.D. Evans, a professor in the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at Yale University, is an expert in plate tectonics and the history of Earth's continents. As director of the Yale Paleomagnetism Laboratory, he studies fossil magnetism in ancient rocks to reconstruct the movements of vanished supercontinents like Pangea, Rodinia, and Nuna, while also exploring Earth’s ancient magnetic fields and the "Snowball Earth" ice ages. Professor Evans earned his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology and joined Yale’s faculty in 2002, where he enjoys teaching undergraduates about geology, climate, and natural resources.
A Milwaukee native and proud Yale College alumnus (BK ’92), Professor Evans has deep ties to Berkeley College, where his father and sister also resided. Outside of academia, he channels his passion for music into playing contrabass with the Berkeley College Orchestra and enjoys occasional forays into bass guitar and old-school hip-hop. A devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks, he embraces both his Midwestern roots and his love for Earth’s geological history.
