Surprisingly, this is not true. A new understanding of Orca attacks and the fear they cause in baleen whales may have shaped where and how whales migrate, how they sing, and their growth rates, among many other aspects of their behavior, ecology, and evolution.
This engaging peek into the world of whale evolution is presented by Trevor Branch, Professor of Aquatic & Fishery Science at the University of Washington. His research focuses on solving biological problems through data synthesis and mathematical models. His research team works on a variety of research projects that model fisheries and whale populations.
