Fear of the Unknown in Colonial Dutchess
About this Event
The true Dark of Night was a common experience for residents of Colonial Dutchess County. With no street lights and nothing more reliable for illumination than a candle or a taper, the hours between sunset and sunrise held a different meaning for them. Join Dutchess County Historian Will Tatum for a special crossover between the Tavern Trail and the Tales from the Ancient Documents for a Halloween-themed evening of stories drawn from our colonial court records. Learn more about the documented episodes of mysterious, spooky phenomenon, ranging from mysterious deaths to attempted assassinations. While there aren't any associated ghosts-- that we know of-- but there is real life macabre for the Spooky Season.
This event is presented in partnership with Foster's Coach House Restaurant and will take place in the basement space: this area is accessible only via steep stairs. A recording of the program will be made so that those unable to join us in person can access the program afterwards.
Please make dinner reservations directly with Foster's.
