We meet on the second Monday of each month at Bistro 11 to share fellowship and thoughts about our book. Our next meeting will be on Monday, November 10th at 12:30 PM. The book we will be discussing is Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. If you are interested in joining us, contact Judy Kofoet and she will send you a reminder email prior to the meeting. In the meantime, read Atmosphere and plan to join us!
Atmosphere is a captivating and emotional novel that explores love, ambition, and the challenges faced by women in the NASA space program during the 1980s. Joan Goodwin is a professor of astrophysics at Rice University, obsessed by the stars for as long as she can remember, when NASA begins accepting women into its astronaut training program. Accepted on her second try, Joan joins a group of candidates at Johnson Space Center in Houston who are brilliant but have a wide range of strong personalities. These astronauts are willing to risk an awful lot to join the exclusive club of humanity who have ventured into orbit. But are they willing to risk true love? The story intertwines the drama of Joan’s personal life with the high-stakes action of a catastrophe in space. Even so, the touching and surprising love story is the emotional heart of the book.
