Farm Wildlife Walk - Stirling

Join us on Wednesday 29th April, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, for a farm wildlife walk exploring wader-friendly grassland management at the mouth of the River Forth. The meeting point will be the RSPB Skinflats Nature Reserve, Falkirk FK2 8PP.

This event kicks off the 2026 series of meetings as part of the Farm Wildlife Walks initiative: a farmer-led exchange of ideas, where practical experience meets ecological insight. These walks are designed to showcase what works on the ground, highlighting real decisions, real challenges and real successes in nature-friendly farming.

At the mouth of the River Forth, and under the stewardship of the William Dawson Trust, our host farm offers a powerful example of that approach in action. In partnership with RSPB and funded under the Nature Restoration Fund, the trust is undertaking works that will see the breaching of the coastal embankment and extension of saltmarsh habitat for the benefit of ground-nesting wading birds.

Attendees will see first-hand how targeted management, such as landscape engineering, creating wet features, adjusting grazing pressure and protecting nesting areas, is helping ground-nesting waders to return and breed successfully.

Just as importantly, the event provides a space for discussion: an opportunity to share knowledge, ask questions and explore how similar measures could be applied on other farms.

Whether you are a farmer, advisor or simply passionate about Scotland’s wildlife, this is a chance to be part of a growing effort, one where collaboration between land managers and ecologists is having real impact. Join us on the ground, hear the stories behind the work, and see how small changes in management can make a lasting difference.

This event will primarily be held outdoors, suitable footwear and clothing is essential.

A light lunch and refreshments will be available, so booking is essential.
