Ever wondered what farmers actually do to produce milk on a commercial scale before it lands on supermarket shelves? Well come onto our farm Bennetts Farms and find out!Enjoy a tour of our 5th generation commercial dairy farm amongst a small group of people: meet our cows, find out about what they eat and how we take care of them to ensure they are happy and therefore producing lots of milk. See some in the milking parlour – and even have a go helping put the clusters on if you would like! Then take a look inside our brand new dairy unit so we can explain what we do to process our milk before it heads out on our local milk round. This is an incredible experience for anyone interested in learning about where their food really comes from, with facts available from the farmers themselves.
Thursdays 17th and 24th April 2025.
The tour will start at 10am and end between 12pm and 12:30pm, depending on how many questions attendees have.
Tickets cost £20 each and booking a ticket is required please as numbers will be limited.
These farm tours are aimed at slightly older children, although youngers ones are welcome as well. Grown ups without children are also welcome – this isn’t just for kids! All attendees must pay for a ticket please and under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Stef Bennett will meet you by the vintage tractor in the Bennetts Willow Barn car park at 10am before heading up with the group to the farm. You will then enjoy a tour of the main parts of the farm in the sheds and outside so please dress appropriately for the weather. It is likely to still be muddy on the farm in April so wellies and clothes you don’t mind getting mucky are a must!
Stef will introduce you to our cows, you can walk through their sheds, and then visit the milking parlour where Tristan (the 5th generation of the Bennetts to farm here) will show you some cows being milked. Anyone keen is able to come down into the pit with Tristan and help out if they would like – we love giving people the opportunity to be hands on with their learning. Stef will then show you our brand new dairy unit and explain the pasteurising and bottling process to you, before heading back down to the Willow Barn for about 12:15ish.
We welcome all questions and will give honest answers so please do come ready with some. We are happy to help you learn.
