🍽️ What to Expect on Our Fordsburg (Foodsburg) Tour! 🕌🎨🛍️Food & History – SATURDAY 30 MAY 📅
Get ready for a flavour-packed walk through one of Joburg’s most vibrant neighbourhoods! 🌆✨
We kick things off at Shalimar Delights 🍬, one of the biggest hubs for traditional Indian sweet meats (think delicious fudge-like treats!). 😍
From there, we wander through the colourful streets of Fordsburg, soaking up culture and history. 🎨🚶♂️
✨ First stop: Lilian Road to admire an incredible mosaic by artist Hannelie Coetzee. 🧩
🍻 Then it’s off to Archie’s, a quirky dive bar known for cold beers and iconic polony sandwiches. 🍺🥪
Fordsburg is Jozi’s food capital 🍛🔥, and along the way we unpack how food merchants helped shape life on the Witwatersrand. 📖
We stroll through the Oriental Plaza 🛍️, steeped in history and an amazing shopping destination. We also visit Harry’s 🍲 – for their out-of-this-world bunny chow! 🤤
🕌 Next, we visit Hamidia Masjid, one of Joburg’s oldest mosques with a powerful link to Gandhi’s passive resistance movement. ✊
👑 What is Fordsburg’s royal connection? Come and see quirky history! 🤔
And then… the FEAST begins. 😋🎉
Around the market square, cultures collide in the best possible way 🌍✨. On a single block you’ll find Turkish, Pakistani, Greek, Syria and South Indian 🇮🇳 food.
Our food stops include:

• 🥥 Dosa Hut – brilliant South Indian dishes to enjoy or take home 😍

🥤 The juice den – freshly pressed juices, with sugarcane 🍹
We’ll also explore the market for irresistible street food (samosas, rotis, pies, spring rolls) 🥟 and the freshest fruit juices around. 🍍🍊
With happy bellies 😄 and shopping bags full of goodies 🛍️🛍️, we head back to the cars. 🚗
