FANTASTIC DREAMS - Wilmington Symphonic Winds
We open with Frank Ticheli’s Fantastic Dreams, a four-movement journey through vivid musical dreamscapes. From the playful variations of Dancing with the Muses to the peaceful Elysian Fields, the whirlwind adventure of Magic Carpet, and the suspenseful, film-noir-inspired L.A. Noir, Ticheli takes listeners on an ever-changing journey of moods, colors, and imagination.
William Goldstein’s Colloquy: For Solo Trombone and Symphonic Band spotlights Dr. Andrew Watkins-Alcocer in a dynamic showcase of the trombone’s expressive range and virtuosity. Originally commissioned by The United States Army Band, this work brings the soloist and ensemble together in a compelling musical conversation.
We conclude with Saül Gómez Soler’s Leonardo Dreams, a musical portrait of Leonardo da Vinci’s extraordinary imagination. Inspired by the artist and inventor’s notebooks, the work explores Renaissance Florence, scientific curiosity, and visionary inventions, capturing the restless creativity of a mind that continually pushed beyond the boundaries of the known.
From fantastical dreamscapes to the brilliance of human invention, FANTASTIC DREAMS celebrates imagination's power to transport, challenge, and inspire.
